PPL Playa del Carmen 2026: Results & Tournament Recap

Mexico Waves and San Diego Stingrays won the main titles in Playa del Carmen, September 24–27. Maximiliano Arce and David Gala defeated Miami’s Álvaro Meléndez Amaya and José Antonio García Diestro 6–4, 7–6 to complete an unbeaten men’s tournament and a second consecutive Waves title. Claudia Jensen and Verónica Virseda beat Las Vegas’ Raquel Eugenio Barrera and Jimena Velasco 6–2, 6–4 in the women’s final. Florida’s men and DC’s women took third. Mexico’s Saturday escape against DC supplied a longer deciding contest before Sunday’s straight-set final. With Guadalajara still ahead, the event also sharpened the qualification race for December’s Finals in Miami.

Men’s final: Mexico completes the job in straight sets

Championship analysis

Mexico’s championship score supplied a simpler finish than its route to the final. Maximiliano Arce and David Gala defeated Álvaro Meléndez Amaya and José Antonio García Diestro 6–4, 7–6. The first set ended with a two-game margin; the second required a regular-set tiebreak. Unlike the Los Angeles final, this championship did not reach a deciding match tiebreak. Mexico won both completed sets and Miami finished runner-up. Official source ↗

The 7–6 second set is particularly important to read correctly. It means the set reached its own tiebreak after the games were level. It does not identify the tiebreak’s point score, and it is not evidence that the final needed a third phase like Mexico’s Saturday group match against DC. In the championship, the Waves closed the match within the two regular sets. This archive preserves that distinction so the different kinds of tiebreak do not collapse into one misleading scoreline. Official source ↗

Miami held group seed one and Mexico seed two before the final. Both were 2–0, and each had won 80% of group sets and 59% of group games in the rounded official table. The point shares differed: Miami had 56% and Mexico 53%. Those figures exclude the title match, giving a useful picture of two unbeaten routes without retrospectively folding Sunday’s result into qualification. Mexico’s final win reversed the seed order, leaving the Waves first and Miami second in the post-podium rank column. The displayed event points were 25 for Mexico and 19 for Miami. This distinction between qualifying seed and finishing rank matters to the back-to-back-title story: the Waves had to win the championship against the leading group seed, rather than receive first place automatically for their earlier record. Their straight-set finish completed that task. Official source ↗

Analysis: the score portrays a winner who established an early set advantage and completed the second at its closest regular-set game margin. Miami stayed close enough in that second set to require the extra points contest, but the completed record does not establish a match point saved, a break lead lost or an individual return pattern. Those are separate reporting questions. The authenticated result already captures the essential outcome: Miami forced the second set to its limit, while Mexico kept the final from becoming a split-set contest. Official source ↗

The final identifies the exact Miami partnership, Meléndez Amaya and García Diestro. Both were also part of Miami’s verified group route. Mexico’s winning pair was Arce and Gala, rather than the Arce–Franco Dal Bianco partnership recorded at the New York event. Tracking those actual appearances gives the season story more precision than attaching one fixed pair to a franchise all year. The player names in each match are event facts, not assumptions based on a current roster. Official source ↗

The significance of this final extends to the event sequence: Mexico won here after winning Los Angeles. The league’s Sunday reporting establishes its 3–0 Playa del Carmen record and Gala’s 6–0 start across his two PPL events. Those dated records support the back-to-back-title story. They are not projected through Guadalajara or Miami. The official final sheet supplies the result, while the separately cited Sunday article supplies the campaign context. Together, they show a title won in straight sets after a far more demanding Saturday qualification contest. Official source 1 ↗ Official source 2 ↗

Women’s final: San Diego ends Las Vegas’ set streak

Championship analysis

Claudia Jensen and Verónica Virseda returned to the top of the women’s podium with a 6–2, 6–4 win over Raquel Eugenio Barrera and Jimena Velasco. San Diego won the first set by four games and the second by two. The final did not require either a regular-set tiebreak or a deciding match tiebreak. That scoring shape differs sharply from the pair’s New York title, where they recovered from losing the first set before winning a points decider. Official source ↗

The result identifies both finalists without treating the Las Vegas women’s season roster as an appearance list. Eugenio Barrera and Velasco are the two players opposite Jensen and Virseda on the championship scoreboard. Las Vegas’ runner-up finish belongs to that pair’s event. San Diego’s title belongs to the partnership that had already won in New York. Those precise affiliations keep the main women’s competition separate from the same franchises’ PPL II participants. Official source ↗

Las Vegas entered as group seed one, ahead of San Diego at seed two. The Smash had won both qualifying matches without dropping a set and held rounded shares of 75% of group games and 59% of group points. San Diego was also 2–0, with 80% of sets, 59% of games and 56% of points. The final’s 6–2, 6–4 changed that order and ended Las Vegas’ clean event-set record. San Diego finished first with 25 displayed event points; Las Vegas finished second with 19. DC’s women were a third unbeaten group entrant, also at 2–0, and the table identifies them as group seed three. Their exclusion from the title match illustrates why a win-loss record alone did not settle the field. The group seeds shown here follow the official league table. Official source ↗

Analysis: the final score gives San Diego a clear set-level advantage, with twelve regular games won against six. That arithmetic describes the match’s recorded games; it does not mean every rally or service game was comfortable. The source used for the score does not justify reconstructing break sequences or describing particular volleys. The stronger conclusion is that San Diego avoided the extra phases that had settled its New York championship and completed this title in two regular sets. Official source ↗

The two-set finish also means Las Vegas did not extend the contest to a decider after losing the opener. Its second-set game total rose from two to four, but the pair still needed six games with the required margin to win a regular set. San Diego’s 6–4 ended that attempt. The recorded progression is sufficient to describe a closer second set, while a claim about a specific tactical response would need separate match evidence. Official source ↗

The broader event story is supported by the league’s Sunday report: both finalists entered unbeaten, Las Vegas had not dropped a group-stage set and Jensen and Virseda were unbeaten together for the season at that date. Their championship therefore ended one event streak while extending another. The official article also published a 53.1% return-points-won figure for San Diego’s pair across Playa del Carmen. That number is an event measure, not a fabricated final-only percentage. This archive keeps that context next to its source and leaves individual shot explanations for a future review of timecoded footage. Official source 1 ↗ Official source 2 ↗

Day by day

Day 1 · Group-stage report

Mexico’s opening sweep put both Waves divisions on the board, while Los Angeles and San Diego split their meeting. The women’s Mexico–New York contest required a recovery from the opening set; the men’s result was settled in two. Those early outcomes established the first group records, with the next sessions still needed to determine podium positions. Official source ↗

Both women’s winners recovered from losing the opening set. Mexico answered a 1–6 setback with a 6–3 second set and a 10–3 match tiebreak. San Diego had a closer finish against Los Angeles, winning its decider 10–8 after a 4–6, 6–3 split. The men’s contests took a simpler route, with Mexico and Los Angeles each finishing in two sets. San Diego’s split franchise meeting therefore began with a women’s recovery and a men’s defeat, while Mexico left opening night with two completed division victories. Official source ↗

In the men’s group stage, Mexico Waves’s David Gala and Maximiliano Arce defeated Ignacio Vilarino and Javier Martinez of New York Atlantics, 6–2, 6–3. The winning pair completed the result in two regular sets, without a deciding match tiebreak. Official source ↗

In the men’s group stage, Los Angeles Beat’s Leonel "Tolito" Aguirre and Denis Tomas Perino defeated Jose David Sanchez Serrano and Jose Jimenez Casas of San Diego Stingrays, 6–4, 6–4. The winning pair completed the result in two regular sets, without a deciding match tiebreak. Official source ↗

In the women’s group stage, Mexico Waves’s Lucia Peralta and Patricia Martinez Fortun defeated Sofia Saiz Vallejo and Marta Talavan of New York Atlantics, 1–6, 6–3, [10–3 match tiebreak]. The eventual winners recovered from losing the opening set. The bracketed finish is a match tiebreak, separate from the two regular sets. Official source ↗

In the women’s group stage, San Diego Stingrays’s Veronica Virseda and Claudia Jensen defeated Victoria Iglesias Segador and Julia Polo Bautista of Los Angeles Beat, 4–6, 6–3, [10–8 match tiebreak]. The eventual winners recovered from losing the opening set. The bracketed finish is a match tiebreak, separate from the two regular sets. Official source ↗

Day 2 · Group-stage report

Friday added unbeaten contenders and a result that changed the men’s picture. Las Vegas and DC swept their franchise meetings, while San Diego and Miami split. The women’s title pair from New York was back together for San Diego. Each match still counted toward group qualification, so a victory supplied position rather than a knockout advancement. The exact partners and scorelines appear in the individually cited reports below. Official source ↗

In the men’s group stage, Toronto Polar Bears’s Pablo Lijo and Francisco "Xisco" Manuel Gil defeated Luis Hernandez Quesada and Juan Ignacio de Pascual of Florida Goats, 6–3, 1–6, [10–7 match tiebreak]. The losing side answered the opening-set defeat to force a deciding contest. The bracketed finish is a match tiebreak, separate from the two regular sets. Official source ↗

In the men’s group stage, Miami Padel Club’s Alvaro Melendez Amaya and Jose Antonio Garcia Diestro defeated Jose David Sanchez Serrano and Jose Jimenez Casas of San Diego Stingrays, 7–6, 6–7, [12–10 match tiebreak]. The losing side answered the opening-set defeat to force a deciding contest. The bracketed finish is a match tiebreak, separate from the two regular sets. Official source ↗

In the women’s group stage, Florida Goats’s Noa Canovas and Carolina Orsi defeated Nuria Rodriguez and Marta Caparros Maldonado of Toronto Polar Bears, 6–1, 6–4. The winning pair completed the result in two regular sets, without a deciding match tiebreak. Official source ↗

In the women’s group stage, San Diego Stingrays’s Veronica Virseda and Claudia Jensen defeated Anna Ortiz Gasco and Lucia Martinez Gomez of Miami Padel Club, 7–6, 6–2. A regular-set tiebreak featured in the straight-set result; its individual point score is not specified here. Official source ↗

In the men’s group stage, DC Matrix’s Alejandro "Alex" Arroyo and Valentino Libaak defeated Ramiro Valenzuela and Alberto Garcia Trabanco of Houston Volts, 6–3, 6–7, [10–8 match tiebreak]. The losing side answered the opening-set defeat to force a deciding contest. The bracketed finish is a match tiebreak, separate from the two regular sets. Official source ↗

In the women’s group stage, Las Vegas Smash’s Raquel Eugenio Barrera and Jimena Velasco defeated Victoria Iglesias Segador and Julia Polo Bautista of Los Angeles Beat, 6–1, 6–2. The winning pair completed the result in two regular sets, without a deciding match tiebreak. Official source ↗

In the women’s group stage, DC Matrix’s Araceli Martinez Ibanez and Marina Guinart Espana defeated Marta Barrera De La Fuente and Maria Eulalia Rodriguez of Houston Volts, 5–7, 6–4, [10–3 match tiebreak]. The eventual winners recovered from losing the opening set. The bracketed finish is a match tiebreak, separate from the two regular sets. Official source ↗

Day 3 · Group-stage report

Saturday’s decisive group session produced the men’s final matchup and closed the women’s field. Mexico beat DC in a 13–11 match tiebreak; Miami reached the title match, and Las Vegas secured a women’s meeting with San Diego. DC advanced to podium contention in both divisions, while New York’s women reached the third-place match. The group results explain those assignments without introducing regular-season semifinals. Official source ↗

In the men’s group stage, Florida Goats’s Luis Hernandez Quesada and Juan Ignacio de Pascual defeated Ignacio Vilarino and Javier Martinez of New York Atlantics, 6–3, 7–6. A regular-set tiebreak featured in the straight-set result; its individual point score is not specified here. Official source ↗

In the men’s group stage, Houston Volts’s Ramiro Valenzuela and Facundo Lopez defeated Pablo Lijo and Francisco "Xisco" Manuel Gil of Toronto Polar Bears, 3–6, 6–4, [10–6 match tiebreak]. The eventual winners recovered from losing the opening set. The bracketed finish is a match tiebreak, separate from the two regular sets. Official source ↗

In the women’s group stage, New York Atlantics’s Sofia Saiz Vallejo and Marta Talavan defeated Noa Canovas and Carolina Orsi of Florida Goats, 6–4, 6–4. The winning pair completed the result in two regular sets, without a deciding match tiebreak. Official source ↗

In the men’s group stage, Mexico Waves’s David Gala and Maximiliano Arce defeated Alejandro "Alex" Arroyo and Valentino Libaak of DC Matrix, 7–6, 6–7, [13–11 match tiebreak]. The losing side answered the opening-set defeat to force a deciding contest. The bracketed finish is a match tiebreak, separate from the two regular sets. Official source ↗

In the men’s group stage, Miami Padel Club’s Alvaro Melendez Amaya and Jose Antonio Garcia Diestro defeated Agustin Torre and Guillermo Jimenez Cagigas of Las Vegas Smash, 6–3, 6–2. The winning pair completed the result in two regular sets, without a deciding match tiebreak. Official source ↗

In the women’s group stage, DC Matrix’s Araceli Martinez Ibanez and Marina Guinart Espana defeated Lucia Peralta and Patricia Martinez Fortun of Mexico Waves, 6–3, 6–3. The winning pair completed the result in two regular sets, without a deciding match tiebreak. Official source ↗

Day 4 · Podium Sunday

Sunday’s main finals were both straight-set results. Mexico completed its tournament without a loss, and San Diego’s returning championship partnership added another title. Florida’s men recovered from a 0–6 first set in the third-place match. DC’s women closed with a third-place win despite finishing the event unbeaten. The distinction between win-loss record and group tiebreak selection is essential to explaining that podium. Official source ↗

Florida’s men produced the sharpest set-level reversal on the final main slate. After failing to win a game in the first set against DC, the Goats took the second 6–2 and the match tiebreak 10–6. Their third-place result came through a more difficult opening than either championship winner faced on Sunday. DC’s women took their bronze match in two sets, 6–2, 6–4 over New York. Those separate outcomes left the Matrix fourth in the men’s division and third in the women’s, rather than assigning a single event finish to the franchise. Official source ↗

In the men’s championship, Mexico Waves’s David Gala and Maximiliano Arce defeated Alvaro Melendez Amaya and Jose Antonio Garcia Diestro of Miami Padel Club, 6–4, 7–6. A regular-set tiebreak featured in the straight-set result; its individual point score is not specified here. Official source ↗

In the men’s 3rd place, Florida Goats’s Luis Hernandez Quesada and Juan Ignacio de Pascual defeated Alejandro "Alex" Arroyo and Valentino Libaak of DC Matrix, 0–6, 6–2, [10–6 match tiebreak]. The eventual winners recovered from losing the opening set. The bracketed finish is a match tiebreak, separate from the two regular sets. Official source ↗

In the women’s championship, San Diego Stingrays’s Veronica Virseda and Claudia Jensen defeated Raquel Eugenio Barrera and Jimena Velasco of Las Vegas Smash, 6–2, 6–4. The winning pair completed the result in two regular sets, without a deciding match tiebreak. Official source ↗

In the women’s 3rd place, DC Matrix’s Araceli Martinez Ibanez and Marina Guinart Espana defeated Sofia Saiz Vallejo and Maria Portillo of New York Atlantics, 6–2, 6–4. The winning pair completed the result in two regular sets, without a deciding match tiebreak. Official source ↗

Standout performances and season context

The September 27 league report placed DC first overall on 98 points and New York sixth on 52. Below the direct-entry boundary, Los Angeles had 36, Las Vegas 35, Miami 32 and Houston 28. These are dated post-event figures, not a live table. The report said the top six enter Miami directly; seventh and eighth face the preliminary route. Official source ↗

The remaining regular-season stop is Guadalajara, November 19–22. The calendar still lists its venue as to be announced. Combined division finishes contribute to the franchise standings, so men’s and women’s results both matter to the closing race. No uncited allocation of event points is inferred here. Tournament FAQ

Who won PPL Playa del Carmen 2026?

Mexico Waves won the men’s final 6–4, 7–6 over Miami. San Diego Stingrays won the women’s final 6–2, 6–4 over Las Vegas.

How could DC’s women finish unbeaten but third?

The league reported that DC narrowly missed the championship final on group-stage tiebreakers, then won the third-place match to finish 3–0. Win-loss record alone did not select the title-match field.

Is 53.1% a San Diego final-only statistic?

No. The league described it as Jensen and Virseda’s return-points-won rate for Playa del Carmen. It is shown with that event-wide scope.
